Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RNICU)

Covenant HealthCare promises to deliver extraordinary care to every generation, from the youngest patients to the oldest. For years, families have relied on Covenant HealthCare to provide the highest level of newborn care in the region.

The Covenant RNICU is a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and is a highly specialized medical facility equipped to care for extremely premature and critically ill newborns. The RNICU has board-certified neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners that provide 24-hour, in-house coverage. Specially trained nurses, respiratory therapists, and an excellent support team of occupational therapists, dietitians, lactation consultants, social workers, case workers, and pastoral care are all vital members of the RNICU care team.

The 55-bed RNICU is equipped with advanced monitoring systems to track the baby's vital signs, complex respiratory support including ventilators, and surgical capabilities for immediate interventions if necessary. The Covenant RNICU offers a range of treatments such as intravenous nutrition, phototherapy for jaundice, and specialized equipment designed to help extremely small infants. They provide a controlled environment to support development and actively involve parents in their baby's care, including kangaroo care and family-centered support.

It is not always possible to predict which baby will need the services of an RNICU, but our team is always ready. High-risk obstetric cases are referred to Covenant’s Birth Center so their babies will have advanced care available from their first breath.
